THE FARM
AS OUR DEISGN TEAM APPROACHED THIS PROJECT WE WERE INSPIRED BY THE TROPICAL ENVIRONMENT AND THE EXTREME SLOPE OF THE SITE. WHILE DESIGNING THE ESTATE OUR TEAM POSITIONED THE MAIN HOUSE AND GUEST HOUSE ALONG THE HIGHEST RIDGE OF THE SITE FACING NORTH TOWARD THE OCEAN TO FRAME A SPECTACULAR VIEW OF THE DISTANT BEACH. THE RALATIONSHIP OF THE MAIN AND GUEST HOUSE WAS GIVEN SPECIAL ATTENTION. THE HOUSES WERE POSITIONED IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO ONE ANOTHER TO FOSTER INTERACTION WHILE THE DENSE RAINFOREST EXISTING ON THE EASTERN EDGE OF THE SITE PROVIEDS PRIVACY. THE FLOOR PLANS FOR BOTH STRUCTURES ARE OPEN AND RELY HEAVILY ON NATURAL VENTILATION. CMU BLOCKS HAVE BEEN ENVISIONED AS A SCREENING DIVICE TO REDUCE THE INTENSE SOLAR HEAT AND FOSTER PLANT GROWTH ON THE WALL EXTERIOR. THE BARN AND GARAGE SIT ON THE SOUTHERN END OF THE SITE WHERE THEY ARE ACCESSABLE TO THE SERVICE ROAD AND REMAIN IN PROXIMITY TO THE PROPOSED FARMLAND AREA. THESE PROGRAMITIC ELEMENTS ARE ENVISIONED AS ACCESSABLE UTILITIES TO THE LOCLA COMMUNITY WHERE FARMING CO-OPS CAN SHARE EXPENSIVE MACHINERY. THE WORKERS HOUSES SIT TO THE SOUTHWEST ON THE LOWER EDGE OF THE SITE. HERE THE WORKING FAMILIES CAN EXPIRENCE PRIVACY FROM THE FARM LAND AND FEEL AT HOME WHILE MAINTAINING CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE WORK FACILITIES.
