    Important information before arrival

Learn more about the local climate, language, and culture to fully enjoy your stay.

    Currency and payments

The local currency is the Dominican Peso (DOP), however, the US Dollar is also widely accepted. In Samaná, you will find ATMs, currency exchange offices, and most major stores that accept card payments. However, we recommend having local cash on hand during your travels.

    Passport and entry formalities

Before traveling, make sure you meet the applicable passport requirements by checking official information available on government websites. Entry visas should be obtained at least 24 hours before the planned departure, so we recommend completing the formalities earlier.

    Language and communication

Spanish is the official language in the Dominican Republic, while knowledge of English is limited, especially in rural areas. In case of communication difficulties, it’s worth having an offline translation app with you. Upon arrival, we recommend purchasing a SIM card from the Claro operator to ensure continuous connectivity. It costs only about $10.

    Health and well-being

During your stay in natural surroundings like the Monte Rojo area, you may encounter insects, lizards, and other animals. However, there are no venomous species here, so enjoy the sounds of nature and open your heart to new adventures. It is also recommended to have routine vaccinations before traveling.

    Tropical climate

Prepare for a tropical climate by packing lightweight, breathable clothing and sunscreen. Don’t forget insect repellent to avoid unpleasant mosquito bites.

    Safety and security

The community of Samaná is known for its hospitality and warmth, and Dominicans are renowned for their warm and friendly nature. You may be greeted with a handshake, and during conversations, they pay attention to eye contact.

    Essential luggage

Don’t forget to pack adapters for American sockets, insect repellent spray, and comfortable shoes for jungle walks.

    Food and drinks

Indulge in the amazing local cuisine, trying dishes such as mofongo, seafood, and sancocho. Also, remember to stay hydrated, especially in tropical conditions. It’s not recommended to drink tap water.
