Aerodom, part of VINCI Airports, announced several new routes.
WestJet planned to launch two weekly flights from Montreal to Samaná and resume weekly Toronto service beginning December 11.
Additional routes included new connections to Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata from cities such as Philadelphia, Calgary, and Montreal.
New FBO Under Construction at Samaná Airport
Universal Aviation and Aerodom began construction of a new Fixed Base Operator facility at Prof. Juan Bosch International Airport.
The approximately 300-square-meter FBO was designed to serve private and business aviation.
Planned facilities included passenger lounges, customs areas, offices, concierge services, valet support, and catering.
Completion was expected by the end of 2025.
Banreservas Supports Community Sports Facilities
Through its Juega RD initiative, Banreservas upgraded sports courts in María Luisa and Villa Clara.
The projects were expected to benefit approximately 3,260 residents and nine sports leagues representing around 250 athletes.
Improvements included new surfaces, lighting, fencing, seating, restrooms, storage, and cafeteria facilities.
Road and Lighting Improvements in Las Terrenas
Infrastructure works on Francisco Caamaño Deñó Avenue represented an investment of more than RD$30 million.
The project included 2.45 kilometers of corrosion-resistant street lighting.
Additional works included road resurfacing between Pueblo de los Pescadores and the Golf Project, drainage improvements near Playa Las Ballenas, and new coastal electrical infrastructure.
Tourism Training Program Renewed
INFOTEP and the Samaná Tourism Cluster renewed their tourism-training cooperation for another two years.
During the previous 2023–2024 program, more than 150 training activities reached:
2,107 participants,
140 companies,
22 tour guides trained in environmentally responsible practices.
Samaná to Receive a Passport Office in 2026
The Dominican Passport Authority’s Pasaporte en Ruta program operated in Samaná from July 1–5.
It issued 628 new passports and renewed 299, serving 927 residents in total.
Director Lorenzo David Ramírez announced that a permanent provincial passport office would be included in the 2026 budget.
Ritmo de la Costa Brings Cultural Tourism to Samaná
The Ministry of Tourism launched Ritmo de la Costa, a series of cultural events focused on coastal provinces.
Events were scheduled monthly through November.
Samaná’s edition was planned for September at the newly renovated Malecón, with a focus on merengue, public space, and local identity.
Tourism and Investment Reach New Records
The Dominican Republic welcomed 6.1 million visitors during the first half of 2025.
This included approximately:
4.5 million air travelers,
1.63 million cruise passengers.
Tourism generated around $5.8 billion in revenue.
Foreign direct investment reached $2.89 billion, 15.3% above the previous year, with almost half directed toward tourism and energy.
Emergency Sargassum Plan Introduced
The Ministry of Environment activated an emergency plan under Resolution 0046-2025.
The temporary measures allowed authorized operators to use light machinery within a 60-meter coastal strip while restricting heavy equipment in environmentally sensitive areas.
Floating barriers were also permitted, while storing collected sargassum directly on the shoreline was prohibited.
Samaná’s growth continues across multiple fronts. Managing that expansion while protecting its ecological and cultural assets remains just as important as the headline numbers themselves.
