Uncover the Investment Potential of the Dominican Republic!

Samana Group June 23, 2023 2 min read

Several factors contribute to this environment, from property ownership rules and tourism growth to macroeconomic performance and foreign direct investment.

Property ownership and foreign investment

The Dominican Republic has a legal framework protecting property rights, and foreign investors have the same rights and obligations as local buyers when purchasing property.

The country encourages foreign investment, and the original article noted that there were no restrictions on foreign ownership of real estate.

A real estate market supported by tourism

Tourism remains an important driver of demand for real estate in the Dominican Republic.

Its beaches, tropical climate, and culture attract visitors from around the world, supporting demand for both vacation rentals and residential property.

Economic growth

According to figures cited in the original article, the Dominican Republic’s GDP reached $94.24 billion in 2021.

At the time of publication, the IMF projected GDP growth of 4.5% for 2023, while the World Bank and ECLAC projected growth of 4.8% and 4.7%, respectively.

Tourism numbers continued to rise

Figures presented by Tourism Minister David Collado in May 2023 showed significant growth in visitor numbers.

The Dominican Republic welcomed 757,949 visitors in May, including both air and cruise arrivals. Of these, 621,575 arrived by air, representing an increase of 11% compared with 2022 and 18% compared with 2019.

Foreign direct investment reached a record level

The article also reported that foreign direct investment increased by US$813.6 million, or 25.5%, in 2022, reaching a record US$4,010.4 million.

According to the figures cited at the time, this represented 35% of Central America’s investment flows.

The Samaná Peninsula: A Hidden Jewel

Beyond economic conditions and government policy, the Samaná Peninsula offers another important factor: its natural environment.

For many investors and future residents, Samaná is not simply a real estate market. Its landscape, climate, and proximity to nature are central to its appeal as a place to live, spend time, and invest.

Our partner Enrique Arce explored this perspective during his journey to El Valle, offering a closer look at the region and the environment surrounding our projects.
